Yesterday, I told you about one of my favorite fertility foods: Bone Broth and today we will explore why Sardines are also a great fertility food. Sardines are not only a great fertility food, but also quite beneficial during pregnancy. They also help boost both male and female fertility. Sardines are a great source of minerals, such as calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium (just like bone broth), B12, Vitamin D, and most importantly Omega-3's, all of which are crucial fertility boosters.

There has been lots of talk in recent years about Omega-3's and how important they are for good health. The reason that Omega-3's are important to your fertility and overall health is because they help control inflammation in the body. They also help control blood sugar levels in the body by improving the body's ability to respond to insulin by stimulating the secretion of leptin, a hormone that helps regulate food intake, body weight and metabolism.

Insulin is an important factor in fertility. The most common form of infertility is PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Sydrome. Women with PCOS have higher insulin levels and as a result, irregular menstrual cycles. According to one of my teachers, Barry Sears, lowering insulin levels usually stabilizes the cycle, but women with PCOS have higher rates of miscarriages. The miscarriages can often be linked to higher inflammation levels in the body, which can be measured by a C-Reactive Protein Test. The levels of inflammation can be reduced by ensuring a proper balance of Omega 6's (pro-inflammatory) and Omega 3's (anti-inflammatory). A 3oz portion of Sardines has, 1..34gms of Omega 3's or 55% of your daily dose. Other fertility foods rich in Omega 3's include flax seeds, salmon, grass-fed beef, and walnuts.

Sardines are also a great fertility food for men. Besides being rich in Omega 3's, Sardines are also a good source of Coenzyme Q10. A recent study linked low levels of Coenzyme Q10 to lower sperm count and lower sperm motility. Supplementation with Coenzyme Q10 increased both sperm count and sperm motility.
While I love to eat my sardines whole and fried, with a bit of lemon, they are a bit cumbersome to prepare. The easiest way to get your fertility boosting sardine fix is buying them canned. The best source for canned sardines is Wild Planet (they aren't paying me to say this). They claim their fish have the highest levels of Omega 3's and the cans are also BPA Free. BPA is a hormone distruptor and can also affect fertility. Not sure how to prepare a perfect meal from this fertility food? Check out a simple recipe here: Sardine Fritters with Apple Slaw

Being able to discover this is very timely because we are being asked to search for different food recipes that have sardines as one of the main ingredients. I am actually not really into sardines because I don't find fish tastier that meat, but it doesn't mean that I won't try this. As a matter of fact, I would like to have fish dishes as my food these past few days because we all know that they are healthier other known delicious foods. I feel so genuinely happy because I have seen this recipe of yours. i will definitely try this sooner or later.
